Terri graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a B.F.A. in Art Education, but it was tough finding work as an art teacher in the late 70’s. With bills to be paid, she spent the next 30+ years as a public service employee in local government. During that time she sold drawings and paintings on commission, donated ”art certificates” to charity events and gifted artwork to family and friends.
Since her retirement, Terri’s art has taken on a new direction. She learned that the process of creating abstract art is a therapeutic and refreshing alternative to the satisfaction of producing a good realistic rendering. Terri is especially drawn to the magic and spontaneity of fluid acrylics – a challenging medium which tests the limits of art and science. Her pour paintings explore the dynamics of color, composition and texture, often with surprising results. But old habits die hard, and sometimes Terri can’t stop herself from adding a realistic bird, animal or landscape to a conceptual fluid acrylic background.
Terri also enjoys providing graphic art and serving as volunteer editor of the AFAF website and Facebook page. After all, it’s all part of the same creative journey!
