Featured Artist Terri Staskiewicz Miller

Terri Miller earned her BFA in Art Education from the Illinois Wesleyan University School of Art, but it was tough finding work as an art teacher in the late 70’s.  With bills to be paid, Terri spent the next 30+ years as a public service employee in local government.  She continued to draw and paint in her spare time – working on commission, donating ”art certificates” to charity events and gifting art to family and friends. And whatever the medium, Terri’s artwork was most always done in a realistic style.

But since her retirement, Terri’s artistic style has gone in an entirely new direction. She discovered that the process of creating contemporary abstract art is a refreshing therapeutic alternative to the satisfaction of producing a good realistic rendering.

Terri is especially drawn to the spontaneity and magic of fluid acrylic – a challenging medium which tests the limits of art and science.  Her pour paintings explore the dynamics of color, composition and texture, often with surprising results.  But old habits die hard, and sometimes she can’t stop herself from adding a realistic bird, animal or landscape to a fluid acrylic background.  After all, it’s all part of the same creative journey!

Terri also enjoys providing graphic art and serving as volunteer editor of the Antioch Fine Arts Foundation website and Facebook page.
