Barbara Wagner considers her style to be “contemporary realism.” Working in both oil and acrylic, she discovered water-mixable oils eight years ago and was hooked. She likes to start a painting thinly, with a value (monochromatic) underpainting, and build with color on top of that. Building a painting in layers will produce greater depth, luminosity and beauty. Barbara has studied the traditional methods of the Old Masters extensively and continues her own education by attending workshops and plein air painting trips each year.
Barbara has been teaching art for over 20 years and believes that anyone can learn to paint. Her students range from beginners to advanced, with favorite subject matters being landscape, still life and florals. She enjoys giving students a solid foundation in technique, materials, composition and color theory.
