Debbie Kalinowski of Lake Villa started painting for the first time when she retired 11 years ago. “Better late than never,” she says! Learning helps keep the mind sharp and there is always a new method or art supply to discover.
Oil paint was her first medium to explore. She learned a lot from teachers at classes where everyone painted the same thing, but she wanted to paint her own subjects. Debbie now continues her studies at Mainstreet Art Studio in Lake Zurich.
Debbie discovered pastels about six years ago and fell in love with the medium, especially for painting animals, one of her favorite subjects. At home in her studio basement Debbie will usually be working on two paintings at the same time – an oil and a pastel. This keeps it interesting and gives her time to take a break from each painting to go back later and see what’s needed! Between art and the grand-kids Debbie is a happily busy gal.
