If you're a budding Picasso, Brancusi or Ansel Adams and have a question about your particular artistic medium, send an email to web@antiochfinearts.org! We'll pass it along to one or more of our members to answer. Your question and the response(s) will appear on the AFAF website.

AFAF's talented members cover the spectrum of artistic media. Whether you work with clay or collage, pastel or pencil, oil or watercolor, sculpture or digital photography, you're sure to find answers here!

Art Class

New AFAF Classes Starting Soon!


Marjie Krutsch will hold a hands-on class introducing students to the basics of stained glass which includes choosing glass, cutting, foiling, soldering and finishing. All materials are included and experienced students are welcome to come and work with fellow artists in a group atmosphere. Contact Marjie at marjie1@comcast.net.

Area Art Shows, Exhibitions and Competitions

  • The Lakes Region Historical Society will be hosting the "Art of the Lakes Region--Blending Art and History" exhibit at the Meeting House, 977 Main St., Antioch on Saturdays from May 19th through June 30th. For information on exhibiting artwork, download the brochure.
  • Tom Trausch will be giving a free oil painting demonstration at the Lake Villa Library on May 31 from 6 to 8pm. You are invited to watch as the painting progresses and to ask questions as artist Thomas Trausch explains and explores painting from life outdoors. The Impressionist artist paints en plein air in all seasons and believes there is a certain truth and vitality in light and color that comes through in paintings done this way.   • There's a Call for Entries for the Lake County Heritage Farm Foundation's biennial juried art competition entitled The Farm:Images from the Heartland 2012. The competition is open to artists in the tri-state area, our 2010 competition and resulting exhibition at the Lake County Discovery Museum were a great success. Subjects include farm scenes, buildings, equipment, animals, farm fields, crops, and people. In 2010, there were 228 entries.

  • Visual artists are invited to submit their work to be exhibited and featured in the "Celebrate the Bicycle!" Art Show, as part of the Iowa Bicycle Festival on May 26, 2012. The artwork will be curated by a panel, and selected entries will be displayed in a newly renovated building located on the historic square in Jefferson, Iowa, also home to All Ability Cycles, LLC. Do you need an artist to paint a mural on a living room wall? Are you searching for someone to create a one-of-a-kind sculpture for your garden? Now you can find one--with a little help from the Antioch Fine Arts Foundation!

Just click on the Member Profiles link in the left sidebar menu. Once on the Profiles page, you'll see two dropdown lists. Choose the media type in which you're interested (oil, acrylic, sculpture, &c.) from the first dropdown. Then select the artist specializing in that medium from the second dropdown. Their profile and contact information will appear on screen. The information is constantly being updated, too!

So when you're ready to beautify your home or acquire a one-of-a-kind gift for a loved one, the AFAF is ready to help you achieve your goal!
